TUCSON, Arizona (KOLD News 13) – Tucson police have confirmed a suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound following an armed robbery at a Tucson pharmacy.
Police say the suspect entered Walgreens at 8730 E. Broadway Blvd. on August 25 and robbed the pharmacy at gunpoint.
After the robbery, police tracked the suspect’s vehicle and chased it until it collided with a gate. The driver, 31-year-old Virgilio German Alegria, was arrested by officers. He was detained in the Pima County Jail for armed robbery, serious robbery and while on the run from law enforcement.

The passenger, 23-year-old Ray Arredondo, escaped from the scene and later hijacked a minivan.
Investigators located the minivan and found Arredondo barricaded himself in a shed attached to a house a few blocks away.
When TPD SWAT was called for help, they found that he had died from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to the Arizona Department of Justice, German Alegria has a criminal history in Pima County. In January 2011, he was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for burglary and theft. In October 2017 he was convicted of attempted trafficking in stolen property. He was sentenced to 3 1/2 years and released in March 2020. While in prison, he was convicted of multiple disciplinary violations – attacking an inmate, fighting, promoting contraband in prison, disorderly behavior and smoking.
Officials or passers-by were not injured.
