TUCSON, AZ – Almost a third of Americans say the coronavirus pandemic is causing them to reassess where they live after a new ranking. With that in mind, some of you may want to consider moving to Tucson.

Our city is now the 81st best place to live in the United States, according to a new ranking released this week by US News & World Report.

The 2021-22 list ranks the 150 most populous metropolitan regions in the country according to affordability, job prospects and attractiveness. That year, researchers also looked at how the top communities fared during the pandemic and how much work is required to recover.

“It should come as no surprise that many metropolitan areas where unemployment skyrocketed in 2020 fell in the rankings, but those with higher employment stability tended to do well,” said Devon Thorsby, real estate editor at US News. share in a message.

For the second year in a row, Boulder, Colorado was named the No. 1 place to live for its high quality of life, robust job market and high attractiveness ratings. Raleigh and Durham, North Carolina jumped nine places to second, and Huntsville, Alabama catapulted 12 places to third.

To determine which cities saw the cut this year, US News asked thousands of people across the country to share what factors are most important when choosing a place to live. The responses to the survey were categorized into five indices: the value of living there, the quality of life, the health of the labor market, whether people want to live there and whether people actually move there.

US News also used data from the US Census Bureau, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Sharecare, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

  • Job market: 6.4
  • Value: 6.4
  • Quality of life: 6.5
  • Desirability: 6.6
  • Net migration: 6.7

Pandemic-related unemployment played a huge role in placing cities in this year’s ranking. The biggest changes include Boston, which has fallen 13 places, and Las Vegas, which has fallen 50 places. Meanwhile, San Diego lost 52 points and Honolulu lost 42 points.
