The fast growing startup Phantom Space Corp. based in Tucson, has acquired Micro Aerospace Solutions, a Florida-based provider of communications, propulsion systems and electrical design for spacecraft and rockets.

Phantom is developing systems to launch microsatellites into space for research, communications, and other applications, and plans to mass-produce launch vehicles, satellites, and space propulsion systems in Tucson. The company was co-founded in 2019 by SpaceX veteran Jim Cantrell.

Micro Aerospace was founded in 2000 and specializes in microsatellites, engine design, propulsion systems, attitude control, command and data processing, and computer communication systems for spacecraft and rockets.

The transaction marks the second acquisition by Phantom after the company acquired Strategic Space Development or StratSpace, a satellite technology company that Cantrell started in 2000, in May.

Space products
at low cost

The company says it was involved in the design, development, and flight of many of the International Space Station’s payloads and has a Space Act collaborative arrangement with NASA to use the Kennedy Space Center’s office and laboratory facilities.

Cantrell said the deal promotes Phantom’s plans to “democratize” space by offering bundled satellite and launch products and services at low cost using components already on the market.
