TUCSON, Arizona (KOLD News 13) – Further damage in southern Arizona as another heavy storm brings much-needed rain but unwanted hammer.

The damage in the Catholic parish of St. Joseph on Wednesday July 21st was a painful sight for Rev. Robert Rodriguez. Broken glass covered his parish floor. A nearly 15 meter high stained glass window installed in the 1960s was left in millions of pieces after a storm the night before.

“I could not believe it. It’s just amazing how much damage has happened, ”said Rodriguez.

Across the campus, Carlos Aldana, whose children are attending community school, helped clear a huge uprooted tree on Wednesday. He and other parents, neighbors, and community members jumped into action to clear up as much as possible.

“We’re just a part of the community and we’re doing all we can to help,” Aldana said. “This is a prosperous community in the sense that the people are here.”

Aldana said his mother was in the ward when the stained glass fell.

“She was just scared,” he said. “Suddenly the windows were broken and suddenly the building just collapsed.”

Other damage along the property adds up to an unknown cost. Fortunately, no one was injured during the storm as there was a group of about 30 people in the community when the stained glass fell. The fair has been canceled for the next three days while the rest of the water and structural damage is assessed.

“Structures can be replaced, but of course life cannot,” said Rodriguez.
