TUCSON, Arizona (KOLD News 13) – A man with a long criminal history was shot dead on Saturday, April 24th after allegedly assaulting police officers at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Tucson.

According to a criminal complaint, Kevin Stennis Gordon was shot and killed after two metal pipe attacks on officers at the facility at the 3600 block on South 6th Avenue. He is threatened with federal charges for assault, resistance or obstruction of an officer with a deadly or dangerous weapon.

The officers were called to the medical center because of “an angry person in one of the buildings”.

Gordon was spotted pushing a cart full of pipe valves at a construction site on campus.

When he was told he could not take the valves, Gordon allegedly knocked the car over and swung a metal pipe at the officers. One of the officers was hit in the forearm, leaving a scratch.

Gordon was sprayed with pepper spray and dropped the pipe, but he picked up a rock and threw it at one of the officers. The officer was not hit.

The officers told Gordon they did not want to harm him, but according to the complaint, he said “something that said he was going to kill her”.

Gordon then pulled a two-foot pipe from his pants and began swinging it at the officers.

One of the officers fired once and hit Gordon on the left side of his torso.

Gordon continued to fight the officers as they attempted medical treatment for his wound, but he was taken into custody.

According to the Arizona Department of Justice, Gordon has a long criminal history.

In 2007 he was sentenced to one year in prison for attempting to escape. In 2014, he was sentenced to 2 1/2 years for aggravated assault and smuggling. In 2018 he was sentenced to 2 1/2 years for a robbery.
