TUCSON, AZ (3TV / CBS 5) – Police have identified the University of Arizona student who was killed in a campus shooting this weekend. And now the detectives are asking the public for help in finding the suspicious car.

According to Tucson Police, the victim was 20-year-old Forrest Beckett Keys.

At around 11 p.m. on Saturday, the University of Arizona Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in a parking garage near McKale Center. There, the officers found Keys, who was shot. Rescue teams attempted life-saving measures, but Keys was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives say Keys was walking home when a red or maroon Cadillac sedan pulled up. Apparently Keys got into an argument with someone in that car and shots were fired. Key was hit in the gunfire and the car drove away.

The police published a photo of the alleged vehicle. It is described as a 2006-2011, red or maroon Cadillac DTS. Detectives ask anyone with information to call 88-CRIME. You can remain anonymous.

A vigil was organized for Monday evening in the parking garage in which Keys was shot.

Keys was a sophomore majoring in communications and a member of the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity. “My hope is that justice will come quickly (and) we will find the perpetrators who have stolen this beautiful, young, promising life from our (University of Arizona) family (and especially family, friends),” said President Robert C. Robbins said Monday during the university’s virtual weekly briefing.

The university is in contact with the Keys family, said Robbins. “As you can imagine, they are absolutely devastated at the loss of this incredibly beautiful young man who had an incredibly bright future ahead of him,” said Robbins. “I would like to ask that we all unite, support each other, and if anyone knows anything about this absolutely pointless loss of one of our family members (University of Arizona) please let Chief Seastone and the Tucson Police Department know about it. “

Robbins encouraged members of the campus community to seek assistance from the campus advisory services or the student dean’s office if needed.

University of Arizona police say patrols will be stepped up in the coming days, particularly around the vaccination site in the University of Arizona Mall. “We are indeed a family here on the U of A and one of our family members was tragically taken from us,” said Brian Seastone, police chief of the University of Arizona. “I want to reassure people that campus security is our # 1 priority on campus and has been for many, many years.”
