TUCSON, Arizona (KOLD News 13) – A man is dead after a vehicle accident on the south side of Tucson on Saturday, August 7th.
According to official information, officers from the Operations Division South were dispatched to the intersection of South 6th Avenue and East Michigan Drive to report a collision with serious injuries.
Upon arrival, Tucson Fire staff were on hand to assist the driver of a white 2005 Volvo S60. Despite life-saving measures, the driver succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. He was identified as the 70-year-old Rafael Celaya.
According to interviews conducted at the crime scene, Celaya was on the Michigan Dr. traveling west when he didn’t stop at the stop sign on 6th Avenue. Celaya continued west through the northbound lanes as his vehicle drove from a blue 2014 Ford F. was approached -150 collection.
Police found that the driver of the Ford was unaffected at the time of the collision.
The investigation continues. No fee notices were issued.
