TUCSON, Arizona (AP) – A police union motion to block vaccine requests for the Tucson police force has been denied by a district judge.
KGUN television reported Friday that Pima County judge Richard Gordon had dismissed a lawsuit brought by the Tucson Police Officers Association. The lawsuit argues that the new policy violates state law and that Tucson violated its contract with the union.
The Mayor and City Council passed a policy last week requiring all Tucson City employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or put on a five-day lockdown.
More than half of Arizona’s population has received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine. Hospital admissions for the virus continue to climb this week to their highest number since mid-February.
The Arizona Department of Health reported 3,546 new confirmed COVID-19 cases and four more deaths Thursday, bringing the state’s total to 976,471 cases and 18,508 deaths since the pandemic began.
