TUCSON, Arizona (KOLD News 13) – A Tucson man faces a string of charges while several others are searched following an incident in Sahuarita on Saturday September 4th.
Sahuarita police said Jonathan Ray Irby, 40, had been arrested for organized retail theft, drug possession, possession of burglar tools and pending burglary orders. On Monday, September 6th, he was held in the Pima County Jail on a $ 2,500 bond.
It started around 9 p.m. when officers received a theft report from the TJ Maxx on the South Nogales Highway.
The SPD said the suspicious vehicle had been sighted and officials, along with a deputy from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, tried to stop it on Pima Mine Road.
The vehicle did not stop and the suspects threw objects out of the windows during the pursuit, according to the SPD. Some of these items contained suspected stolen property and drug paraphernalia.
Irby is said to have jumped out of the vehicle later and tried to escape, but was quickly arrested by an SPD officer.
The other occupants of the vehicle later exited about a mile east of the mine gate. They were not found despite the help of PCSD K-9 units and a helicopter.
Around $ 1,500 worth of stolen goods were found in the vehicle, along with a small amount of fentanyl and meth, according to the SPD.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call 911, 520-344-7000, or 520-445-7847.
