TUCSON, Arizona (KOLD News 13) – Attorney General Mark Brnovich announced that a Tucson man has been charged with allegedly casting illegal votes in the 2020 election.

A state grand jury has indicted 45-year-old Kenneth Russell Nelson on a misregistration charge and on three counts of illegal voting, illegal voting, and voting while he was an inmate at the Pima County Jail.

The indictment alleges Nelson falsely completed a voter registration form in 2018, saying he was not convicted of a crime or his rights were restored.

The indictment also alleges that he had previously been convicted of a crime and that his rights were not restored from that 2007 conviction. He is said to have voted in the 2018 primaries and parliamentary elections as well as in the 2020 parliamentary elections.

This case has been investigated and is being prosecuted by the Election Integrity Unit of the Arizona Attorney General’s Office.

Nelson’s next court hearing is scheduled for November 8th at 9:00 a.m.

Nelson is also charged with killing his wife in 2019 and that court hearing is scheduled for Friday October 1st.
