Border officials discover 53 pounds of fentanyl in southern Arizona

More than 50 pounds of suspected fentanyl were found at an immigration checkpoint north of Nogales earlier this week.

US border guards confiscated more than 50 pounds of fentanyl at an immigration checkpoint in southern Arizona on October 11, Tucson officials said.

Agents were working at the Interstate 19 checkpoint near Amado, Arizona when a K-9 alerted them as a white Ford F150 drove through.

When the truck was searched, authorities found several packs of blue pills that tested positive for fentanyl’s properties. The supply weighed more than 53 pounds, officials said.

The driver, a 33-year-old US citizen, was arrested and is in DEA custody.
