Solar co-op recruiting in Tucson for second year

TUCSON, Arizona (KOLD News 13) – World leaders are addressing the growing threat of climate change during the UN climate summit over the next two weeks.

“In this monumental edition for our state, our country and the world. I think we in the West are certainly on the forefront of the impact of the climate crisis, ”said Kevin Moran of the Colorado River Program and Senior Director of Environmental Defense Fund Action.

Efforts are being made to mitigate the effects. With growing interest in solar energy, Solar United Neighbors creates a second cooperative in Tucson.

“People want to do something in their private life to affect climate change and this is a great way to know that my electricity comes straight from my roof and the sun and is clean,” said Bret Fanshaw, director of the Solar United Neighbors Arizona Program.

Households in Tucson can choose to share solar energy through the cooperative and receive an individualized view of how much solar energy they might need.

“Electricity bills, energy usage, how much space you have on your roof, but also your budget,” said Fanshaw.

Harry McGregor participated in the solar collaboration in Tucson last year.

“It’s really nice to see we’re making a difference in reducing our energy footprint,” said McGregor.

His family’s home is now 100% solar powered.

“We have four children and are worried about their future. We always drove either hybrid or electric vehicles. “

Harry says the community should work to find additional ways to reduce their footprint. This includes car pooling or planning trips to reduce fuel emissions.

“There is always more to do and we are looking for ways we can improve in the future,” he said.

According to Solar United Neighbors, a 100% solar home can save nearly $ 16,000 over 25 years with federal and state tax credits. Find out more about the cooperative here.
