TUCSON, Arizona (KOLD News 13) – Two families are still searching for answers to the deaths of two boys killed on the south side of Tucson in March.
Family and friends gathered in front of a memorial to the boys to honor their lives on South Furgeus Avenue. On Wednesday evening, June 9, it had been three months since both Christopher Nunez and Bernadino Santamarina were killed in a double homicide.
Two mothers unite in pain.
“We miss Chris every day and I wish he were here every day,” said Selena Cluff, the mother of Christopher Nunez.
Bernardino Santamarina’s mother, Carmen Zurita, also spoke up and demanded justice for her son.
“We just can’t believe what happened to them. This was a tough dream that we couldn’t wake up from,” she said.
Balloons floated in the sky with signs reading “Until We Meet Again” as loved ones held a vigil to honor both lives prematurely taken from what the family called a senseless crime.
“I still think he’s here and I love him as much as anyone in the family and he will always be in our hearts,” said Carmen.
Both mothers remembered their fondest memories with their cubs.
“I miss everything about him, his smile, I miss the fact that he asks me ‘Mom, what’s for dinner’, his hugs,” said Selena.
“Bernie always wanted to be a pilot, now he’s about to be a pilot,” said Carmen.
They may be gone, but they will never be forgotten.
The boy’s legacy will continue to be shared for years to come by those who still love him.
“I know that they are together, both happy, their big angels look down on us and take care of us,” said Bernardino’s mother.
And as for Chris’ mother.
“I think he would probably tell me to do what I do, keep fighting for him, I am his voice,” she said.
Tucson Police said the investigation has not been updated.
However, there is a $ 2,500 reward for anyone with information leading to an arrest.
