TUCSON, Arizona (KOLD News 13) – Days after Pima County and the CDC did so, the city of Tucson relaxed its own mask guidelines.
The city council unanimously decided on Tuesday, May 18, to revoke his mask mandate. The move takes effect immediately.
Masks are still required on public transport – according to federal law until mid-September.
Mayor Regina Romero had already announced that the city would adapt its policies to those of the CDC.
“With the updated CDC Guidelines released and with no way of distinguishing between vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals, I will ask my colleagues on the Council to consider ending our local mask requirement at our meeting on Tuesday while strongly recommending Tucsonans obey They adhere to CDC guidelines, including wearing masks when appropriate, “Romero said in a statement last week.
The CDC guidance still calls for the wearing of masks in crowded indoor spaces like buses, planes, hospitals, prisons, and the homeless shelters, but it will pave the way for reopening jobs, schools, and other venues – and even the need for distancing for those eliminate those who are fully vaccinated.
However, like the county, the city is still encouraging people who have not been vaccinated to continue wearing masks in public.
The city has not yet made a decision as to whether or not there is a mask requirement in city buildings.
