TUCSON, Arizona (KOLD News 13) – Governor Doug Ducey and the Arizona Office of Tourism announced that 43 companies and organizations across the state will receive more than $ 9.4 million. It is a grant from the Visit Arizona Initiative Partnership that supports the relaunch or expansion of events. El Tour de Tucson will be one of these organizations after not holding an event last year due to the pandemic.
Executive Director TJ Juskiewicz said the money will be used to promote the event across the country. He said the goal is to use social media and also attend cycling events along the west coast to attract cyclists to Tucson.
“That is what tourism is about getting people from outside the city to come here and experience all the great things we do in El Tour de Tucson,” said Juskiewicz.
Right now they tend to have around 10,000 participants, with more than three 3,000 of them from states other than Arizona. That is more than ever in 38 years. Juskiewicz said they want to make sure attendees support local restaurants and hotels across the community during the event.
“If you can take a seat in one of the great independent restaurants that we’re just blocks from Armory Park and downtown. It’s just an absolute win / win for the community and for El Tour de Tucson. “
Funds will also be used to ensure the event is safe by providing additional law enforcement, first responders and safety equipment.
You can now register for the event on the El Tour de Tucson website. The event will take place on November 20th.
