TUCSON, Arizona (KOLD News 13) – The family of the man who was killed in downtown Tucson last weekend is asking the public to help identify the person responsible.
David Scott Anderson, 30, was found shot dead near Park and Grant on Saturday May 1st.
Tucson Police said Anderson was walking on East Waverly Street’s 1100 block when he was shot dead. He died in a local hospital.
Anderson’s mother Diana Garaventa traveled from California to speak to KOLD News 13 about his life and death.
“There are so many people who loved him and our lives have changed forever,” she said on Wednesday. “It is not right, this person needs to be caught.”
The TPD released photos of a white four-door vehicle that was in the area at the time of the shooting. The TPD said it wanted to “speak to the inmate or inmates who may have information related to the shooting”.

Garaventa said David grew up in Santa Rosa and moved to Tucson to study at the University of Arizona.
He was a teacher at Saguaro High for two years before deciding to graduate with a degree in computer science. Anderson recently got a major internship in the field, Garaventa said.
“His life was at its peak,” she said. “It ended so tragically. I want him back. I would give my life for his. I want the people of Tucson to know that David didn’t deserve to die. “
Garaventa asked anyone with information to come forward.
“If you know who it is, you have to call,” she said. “For their own safety, for the safety of their families, for all of humanity. It takes a community to solve these problems. “
Garaventa said Anderson was shot in the heart and remained conscious long enough to call 911.
“Some nurses were there doing CPR,” she said. “You shot him in the heart. He lost too much blood. There is no turning back from that. “
Garaventa said she hadn’t seen Anderson in a while because of COVID, but he had planned to return home soon.
“He had tickets to go home,” she said. “I will always have two sons. Now I only have one left that I can’t hug. I’ll talk to him anyway. A mother should never have to travel to bring a son home that way. “
