TUCSON, Arizona (KOLD News 13) – Tucson Police Chief Chris Magnus took to Twitter Wednesday, August 25 to vent his frustration after an untied suspect was released.
Zachery Lee shot a TPD sergeant on E. 29th Street last Friday. Afternoon. Lee was arrested and charged with fatal weaponry with Agg Assault.
But understand this: The Tucson City Court judge released Lee, at the prosecutor’s request, for temporary release without commitment.

Zachary Oscar Lee, 26, is said to have hit Sgt. Lorence Jove, who also fired his gun. The incident occurred on Friday, August 20, in a parking lot near East 29th Street and South Swan Road.
Tucson City Court Judge Rosemary Panuco released Lee Friday night, according to Magnus’ tweet thread.
After Lee was treated in a hospital for a gunshot wound, he was arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm with a lethal weapon and firing a gun within the city limits.
The Office of Professional Standards is investigating Jove’s actions that are standard for all officer shootings. He is a 9 year veteran of the department.
