TUCSON, Arizona (KOLD News 13) – A man died in a fatal vehicle collision on July 28th.

Officials from the Midtown Operations Division came forward at the intersection of South Craycroft Road and East Golf Links Road with a report of a serious injury collision.

Upon arrival, Tucson Fire staff were on hand to assist the driver of a white 2017 Nissan Sentra. The driver was then taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Investigators were later told that the driver had succumbed to his injuries. He was identified as 27-year-old Alejandro Rubalcaba.

The officers then learned that a passenger in the Nissan escaped from the scene of the accident after the collision. A short time later they were located and questioned by officials.

The Traffic Unit detectives continued their investigation and discovered that the Nissan was driving at excessive speed east on Golf Links Road. The Nissan then came off the road and hit a light pole on the south side of the road.

According to the officials, the driver and front passenger were not buckled up at the time of the collision.

Detectives also discovered that Rubalcaba had a revoked driver’s license. Witness interviews with street evidence show that excessive speed is the main factor, officials said.

The investigation continues. The officials stated that no summons or arrests are expected.
