TUCSON, Arizona (KOLD News 13) – Tucson Police Department officials are investigating a fatal shootout that occurred on the south side of Tucson early Thursday, April 8th.
Tucson Police Department said officers were dispatched to a smoke shop on 5342 S. Park Avenue at around 1:30 a.m. to report a shooting.
When the officers were there, they found a man with gunshot wounds. After life-saving efforts by the officers, the man was pronounced dead on the scene. He was identified as 28-year-old Omar Hernandez-Altamirano.
According to police reports, Hernandez got into a physical altercation with another man in front of the smokehouse, which escalated that the other man fired a gun and beat him.
Police said several people left the area after the shooting, including the suspect in a white pickup truck found in an apartment building on the 2100 block of E. Honeysuckle Street near Irvington Road and Campbell Avenue.
The suspect was taken into custody by a SWAT team and identified as Honorio Juan Nieblas, 30, charged with first degree murder and banned owner. He is being held in the Pima County Jail.
The investigators are looking for more witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
