TUCSON, Arizona (KOLD News 13) – In the past few weeks, KOLD News 13 has received calls and messages from many Tucson residents expressing concerns about possible fuel shortages at gas stations.
Local residents said several Fry’s Fuel Centers ran out of gas when they stopped at the pump; and today we heard about two Circle K gas stations that confirmed they were running empty. These are located at 4201 E. Grant Rd. & 10 W. Fort Lowell Road in Acacia Square.
The Circle K at 1401 W. Grant Rd. It was also confirmed that there was no fuel left on Friday and Sunday.
KOLD News 13 reached out to Circle K’s Director of Fuels and received the following response:
“Circle K is experiencing fuel outages at some of its Arizona locations, primarily due to refinery supply problems caused by the recent historic storm in Texas, as well as limited replacement delivery problems in California. The situation was compounded by the special blend of fuel required by most of the Arizona locations. “Everyone on our Arizona team and Circle K’s global fuel division are working hard to correct the situation,” said Tim Tourek, VP of Operations Grand Canyon Business Unit. “The supply is still a challenge and we are working hard to soon be at full capacity. We very much appreciate the patience of our customers and promise to return to normal business operations as soon as possible. ”
And according to the latest information from gasbuddy.com, an online tool on volatile fuel prices, Tucson and Arizona have seen significant price increases per gallon since mid-February.
From February 15 to March 6, the average retail price for gas rose from about $ 2.40 per gallon in Tucson to $ 2.99 per gallon.
The average increase for the state rose to about $ 2.95 per gallon from just below the average of $ 2.32 per gallon, which was Tucson gas prices above the state average.
