TUCSON, Arizona (KOLD News 13) – A Tucson Sector Border Patrol agent and civilian driver died in a head-on collision near Sells, Arizona early on Saturday, July 31.

US Border Protection chief Rodney Scott identified the agent as Daniel Cox, who became an agent in 1997.

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey ordered the flags to be lowered to half the staff in honor of Cox on Thursday, August 5th.

“Arizona is devastated by the loss of Border Guard agent Daniel Cox,” Ducey said in a press release. “He has been dedicated to protecting our nation for more than 20 years, and his ministry has helped create a safer environment for our border communities and all of Arizona residents. My prayers go with the family of Agent Cox and law enforcement in southern Arizona at this difficult time.

Several emergency services, including a rescue flight, responded to the crime scene, according to Chief Patrol Agent John R. Modlin.

Shortly after the collision, both Cox and the driver of the other vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. There was no one else in either vehicle.
