TUCSON (KVOA) – When COVID-19 hit last year, the Mayor and City Council of Tucson approved a moratorium on your water bill. This moratorium is now ending.
On Monday, Tucson Water will continue blocking water for accounts with a default of $ 75 or more.
Back when things were normal, Tucson Water had a total of $ 3 million in accounts with excess amounts. As of January 2021, that $ 3 million was $ 9 million. On February 9, Mayor and Council directed Tucson Water to close these accounts again today.
However, this process will be slow. Tucson Water said they want customers to know they are there for you and encourage you to get in touch if you are still in a difficult situation.
“We will proceed slowly. And again we will try to share as much information with customers and reach them, “said Silvia Amparano of Tucson Water. “But we would also like you to contact us so that we can exchange information.”
If you have a payment arrears of $ 75 or more, Tucson Water will begin the process by putting a door hanger on your door as a reminder before dispatching a crew to disable your service.
Typically, Tucson Water will not lock your account if you have an arrears of $ 75 or less. However, if it’s over $ 75 for 60 days or more, they start disrupting accounts.
