TUCSON, AZ (3TV / CBS 5) – A Tucson man learned his sentence for selling stolen MLB championships and All-Star rings from MLB manager Terry Francona. A judge sentenced 35-year-old Jamey Estep to five years in prison for trading the rings on Friday. The conviction was part of a plea.

When Francona returned from leading the Cleveland Indians in 2019, he found that his 2004 and 2007 World Series rings were stolen from his home in the Tucson area by the Boston Red Sox. He was also missing three MLB All-Star Rings and his college Hall of Fame ring. Detectives from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department chased the two World Series rings to a Valley memorabilia collector who was trying to sell them. Then they traced the rings back to Estep. After originally denying he had the rings, Estep claimed he bought the two rings from a friend for $ 400 and later sold them to the Phoenix area memorabilia collector.

Estep worked with investigators to find Francona’s College Hall of Fame ring. But the three MLB All-Star Rings are still missing.

Francona played his college ball at the University of Arizona, where the Wildcats won the 1980 College World Series. In the Pros, he won those two World Series titles when he was manager of the Boston Red Sox. The 2004 championship was the first for the franchise since 1918. Francona has been with the Indians since 2013.
