Arevalo has the blessing of cousin Oscar who ran the business with his mother and sister after his father Oscar Ramon Segura passed away in 2015.
In June 2020, a family dispute and a break-in at the production facility of the hot sauce company led to its demise.
A family legacy
Segura and Arevalo’s great-grandfather, Nicolas Segura, founded Poblano Hot Sauce in 1924. His sons Oscar and Gilbert Segura had worked in the business since about 1970, but it wasn’t until the senior Segura was on his deathbed passing his recipe on. He died in 1985.
Oscar Segura Sr. took over the running of his father and handcrafted the hot sauce and filled it by hand like his father had done before him. Gilbert Segura worked by his side for a few years before moving on to the company’s sales side, said grandson Arevalo.
Arevalo was 16 when he started working in his grandfather’s sales business; He is now 35 and said the family’s hot sauce business was his only job.
“I’ve always had a personal bond with the Poblano product,” said Arevalo. “Those tastes and tastes have always been a part of my life.”
When the company broke up last summer, Arevalo said he was determined to carry on the family legacy.
