There’s still the faint appearance of a sign on the building at 621 N. Fourth Avenue, but there’s no sign of life at The B Line, the hip little eatery that has long exuded cool on an avenue it’s known for hip and cool.

Almost a year after the shutdown in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the restaurant is permanently closed.

The door and windows on North Fourth Avenue are boarded up and the sign has been removed, leaving an impression of the name of the restaurant, which once stood in raised letters.

In an email, owner Peter Wilke, who also shares the nearby Time Market at 444 E. University Blvd. heard that he closed the restaurant that opened in 2002.

“Right now, no decisions have been made and I have no plans,” he said.

Last March, when restaurants were forced to close their dining rooms in response to the pandemic, B Line announced that it was following the lead of many Tucson restaurants and moving to take-out only. The next day, the restaurant announced on Facebook that it was “going out of business”.

“We hope for the best possible curve for this pandemic and will reopen as soon as it is responsible,” said the Facebook post. “Thank you for your support. Stay home and stay safe Tucson!”
