TUCSON, Arizona (AP) – A federal agent who was shot while questioning a passenger on an Amtrak train in Arizona will be remembered with a public funeral.

Services for Drug Enforcement Administration group leader Michael Garbo will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Calvary Chapel, Tucson. The funeral will be preceded by a law enforcement procession from Bring’s Broadway Chapel.

Garbo was part of a regional task force of DEA agents and local police inspecting luggage at the train station in downtown Tucson on Monday. The officers looked for illegal drugs, weapons or money.

Authorities say a passenger opened fire on Garbo and another agent when they got back on a train car to question him after large packets of marijuana were found in a bag.

The other agent and a Tucson police officer suffered multiple gunshot wounds and are being hospitalized.

The armed passenger exchanged shots with other officers and was subsequently killed.

Another man sitting next to this passenger was arrested for knowingly possessing drugs and intending to distribute them.

Garbo, also husband and father, joined the DEA in 2005. As a special agent and supervisor, he prosecuted criminal drug traffickers on the US-Mexico border and in Afghanistan.
