WATSONVILLE, California – (BUSINESS WIRE) – Granite (NYSE: GVA) announced that it has received the DBB1 contract from the Tucson Airport Authority (TAA) as part of its Airfield Safety Enhancements (ASE) program at Tucson International Airport (TUS) in Tucson, Arizona Has. The new project, in collaboration with the previously awarded Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) project at TUS, continues the story of Granite’s successful partnership and coordination with TAA. DBB1 is the 14th TUS project that Granite has awarded in the past 10 years. The $ 25.7 million contract is expected to be included in Granites’ third quarter commitments and awards.
The ASE program will move the airfield at Tucson International Airport (TUS) into a new era of security and provide redundancy with a second parallel runway that will serve the southern Arizona region for decades to come. The DBB1 project is a key phase of the ASE program and will expand access for the Air National Guard and other stationary operations on the southwest side of the airfield. The scope of work includes the construction of the new bypass taxiway including the expansion of the roadway, earthworks, electrics, drainage, road markings and landscaping.
“The DBB1 project naturally builds on our existing work at the airport and fills an expected construction break at the CMAR,” said Granite Area Manager Anthony Alfonso. “Securing this project will allow our team to continue to focus on the airfield and provide the TAA in the ASE program with the best value that benefits everyone.”
The planned start date for the project is October 2021, and completion is expected in January 2023. Granite’s Swan Plant, which is adjacent to a TAA property and within eight kilometers of the airport, will provide approximately 45,000 tons of hot mix asphalt, 90,000 tons of aggregate base and an additional 15,000 tons of other aggregate for the project.
