The appeal of Tucson was already evident at Harsch Investment Properties, a real estate acquisition and development company.

The Portland, Oregon-based company recently opened a regional office in Tucson after completing an industrial building near the airport. It has 30 tenants across the state on more than 700,000 square feet of commercial space.

“We are very excited to be opening an office in Tucson to manage all of our Arizona properties,” said Bill Rodewald, senior vice president. “We looked forward to the day our Arizona portfolio would grow to the point where it warrants an office dedicated to serving our tenants and helping them grow.”

Harsch is an example of a company moving to Tucson for lower costs, a business-friendly environment, and people, said Joe Snell, president and CEO of Sun Corridor Inc., a regional business development group.

And when companies like Harsch select Tucson, the city moves onto the radar, complemented by quotes from groups like the Site Selectors Guild.

“We’re seeing quite a bit of interest,” said Snell. “We spoke to a few manufacturers who are questioning their supply chain and shifting their focus from efficiency to resilience.”

Several companies in Asia are considering a “close to home” operation for sales and fulfillment, he said.
