Councilor Steve Kozachik has represented Ward 6 since 2009.

Tucson City Councilor Steve Kozachik will hold his position after gaining 65% of the votes cast in the Ward 6 election, according to the City Clerk’s Office unofficial vote counts.

Kozachik is a Democrat who has been a member of the Council since 2009. During his tenure, he has stayed at the forefront of efforts on a number of key city issues such as road repair and 5G power pole placement.

He plans to focus on water safety issues during his next four-year term, particularly groundwater that has been contaminated with the potentially harmful chemical called PFAS. Other topics on Kozachik’s crosshairs include containing COVID and creating more high-paying jobs in Tucson.

“I am grateful to the community for recognizing the work my staff and I have done over the past four years,” said Kozachik. “We have some really fundamental, important issues ahead of us. We’re just looking forward to digging first thing in the morning.”

The independent candidate Val Romero was Kozachik’s only opponent in the Ward 6 elections this year. According to unofficial counts, the political newcomer received around 30% of the vote. Voters across the city cast ballots for all district races on the ballot.

Romero is a local business owner whose campaign revolved around issues such as resisting COVID vaccine mandates for city workers, empowering the Tucson police force, and fueling small business growth in the city.
