“It wasn’t a clear picture,” he said.

Tucson Mayor Regina Romero told Capitol Media Services that the disputed provision should never have been enacted.

“I wish our lawmakers and our governor spent as much time looking at our state’s numerous problems, including the current surge in COVID-19 cases, as they try to administer the city of Tucson,” she said.

“They knew all along that this was a futile and unjustified effort,” Romero continued. “Stop wasting our time and tax dollars.”

Romero said 88% of city workers were vaccinated at the council meeting last week. If you add those who have received exemptions, compliance increases to 98%, with 86 employees breaking the law. The deadline is December 1st to comply or await termination.

“The City of Tucson’s immunization policies have proven overwhelmingly effective in increasing our immunization rates and protecting the community we serve,” she said.

Leach noted that there are other vaccine request cases pending in federal court.

However, these lawsuits challenge various actions taken by the Biden government. These include a vaccination mandate for federal employees and contractors, as well as a new regulation by the occupational safety and health authority that requires either vaccinations or regular tests for employees in a company with more than 100 employees.
