TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) -BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company), a global medical device company, announced that it will invest $ 65 million to build a new, state-of-the-art facility in Tucson. The company says this facility will be a hub for the company’s supply chain and will serve as a “final stage manufacturing and sterilization center.”
The company says the new 120,000 square foot facility will be built on approximately 32 acres on the northeast corner of Valencia and Kolb Road and is scheduled to go live in mid-2022. BD plans to create about 40 new jobs, including engineers, scientists, quality control specialists, and others. Sun Corridor, Inc. predicts that BD’s investment will have an economic impact of $ 122 million over the next 10 years.
“Tucson is the ideal location for critical infrastructure and was selected after careful consideration of a number of alternative locations in the southwestern United States and Mexico,” said Alexandre Conroy, executive vice president, integrated supply chain, BD. “Arizona’s favorable business climate, the strength of its workforce and Tucson’s central position to other parts of the BD supply chain were key factors in the decision.”
BD operates more than 90 production and sterilization plants for medical devices and health technology worldwide. The company says the Tucson facility will be one of the first in the world to feature an original design that meets or exceeds the most stringent environmental guidelines and serves as a model for other locations around the world.
Sandra Watson, President and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority, said, “We are delighted that global innovator has selected BD Tucson for this new operation. Arizona has earned a reputation as a hub for biotechnology and life sciences thanks to our unique value proposition and the continued investment of industry leaders like BD. We would like to thank the company for its continued commitment to our state. “
