TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) – Authorities are investigating a shooting that killed a police officer in Tucson on Tuesday, October 5th.

Tucson says they were called to Block 100 on East Fort Lowell Road after a man allegedly pointed a gun at a victim.

When the officers got there, they found the suspect in a fenced-in business yard and ordered him to drop the gun and show his hands several times. All orders were ignored, police say, before the suspect shot them and an officer shot back.

The suspect was hit and officials said they treated him at the scene until the Tucson Fire Department took him over and took him to the Banner University medical center, where he died. Authorities identified him as 23-year-old Donte Lorenzo Laster.

Detectives said they found a weapon at the scene that was reported as stolen.

The officer who shot the truck was identified as Officer Michael Cooper, a three-year TPD veteran.

Tucson Police Department detectives are investigating the incident, which is a routine occurrence in all police shootings.
