Tucson, Arizona based Phantom Aerospace Corporation has acquired Micro Aerospace Solutions, a leading provider of space communications systems, space propulsion systems, and electrical hardware design for spacecraft and rockets based in Melbourne, Florida.

Phantom Space Corporation is a space technology development and manufacturing company.

The acquisition further advanced Phantom’s goal of democratizing access to space through the mass production of launch vehicles, satellites and space propulsion systems. This is the second in a series of acquisitions by Phantom, the first being StratSpace in May 2021.

Micro Aerospace Solutions specializes in microsatellites, engine design, propulsion systems, attitude control, command and data processing and computer communication systems for spacecraft and rockets. You have proprietary broadband communication hardware that provides a wider range of connectivity in multiple spectrums through software-defined radio, proprietary in-space propulsion systems, extensive experience in designing electrical systems specifically for the in-space infrastructure, microcontroller systems, environmental control, Navigation enables and tracking, imaging systems, scientific sensors and display systems. They also offer spacecraft and systems testing, data acquisition, and development.

The background of MAS in aerospace systems enables them to understand energy saving and high efficiency designs with tight tolerance requirements. They have supported many groups in realizing their system designs, enabling them to get to market quickly and effectively in broad business areas such as aerospace, satellite design and deployment, and launch vehicle control systems. MAS also brings ISO9000 and NASA standards compliance experience, which Phantom Space will benefit from across the enterprise.

“With every day that goes by, the democratization of space access becomes more and more a reality,” said Jim Cantrell, co-founder and CEO of Phantom. “A major revolution in inexpensive, hassle-free space access is underway, and as a result, we see vertical integration of the launch and satellite markets as a single product offering for many customers. Offering bundled launch and satellite bus products allows space imaging, IOT, and other space applications professionals to focus on building this part of their business rather than devoting energy and resources to developing the underlying satellite and launch technologies. By acquiring Micro Aerospace Solutions and integrating them into our own technology, we are promoting Phantom’s mass production and distribution of space technology and can drive these discussions and explorations even further. “

MAS has been involved in the design, development and flight of many ISS payloads, as well as providing ISS certification tests, including PRCU, EMI, vibration and exhaust. MAS provides hardware and software development services implemented from the prototype stage through to space requirements (i.e. telemetry and command formatting, watchdog timer, power management, file download) in a ready-to-fly ISS experiment command and data processing system . They also have a Space Act agreement with NASA to use the Kennedy Space Center facilities to develop this technology.

“This is an exciting time for us to join Phantom and help them achieve their vision,” says Dr. Don Platt, founder of Micro Aerospace Solutions. “They have had an incredible year so far and have a lot in store for the near future, including the launch of the Phantom Daytona rocket. Sharing our technology with this historic moment is exhilarating, as is watching our technology grow with the takeover. “
