Simply Bits, a Tucson-based provider of fixed wireless Internet and networking services, is being acquired by Internet service provider Tucows Inc. to expand its service offering in southern Arizona.
The companies have signed a definitive agreement for Tucows subsidiary Ting Internet to acquire native Simply Bit, which is expected to close in the fourth quarter of this year after regulatory approvals.
Financial terms of the acquisition by Toronto-based Tucows were not disclosed.
As part of the transaction, Ting is taking over all of Simply Bits’ existing infrastructure and customers, adding approximately 4,500 customers, 1,100 square miles of established wireless landline and a small fiber to the home to Ting’s portfolio.
Ting will keep Simply Bits employees, including senior management, with support and guidance from Simply Bits founding members, Tucows said.
Since its inception in 2004, Simply Bits has grown to become a leading independent provider of Internet, voice and other broadband solutions in southern Arizona including Tucson, Marana, Vail, Oro Valley, Green Valley, Rio Rico, Sahuarita and Douglas.
“By building on the decades of Simply Bits’ service in southern Arizona, we will have a platform to introduce Ting to the broader communities of Pima, Pinal, Santa Cruz and Cochise and the team and resources to get started quickly.” said Jill Szuchmacher, chief strategy officer and executive vice president of networks for Ting Internet.
