TUCSON, Arizona (KGUN) – A Tucson chef is celebrating 20 years of culinary success after starting a catering business in 2001.

Chef Wendy Gauthier started her catering business as a home caterer, as her orders grew she moved to a larger room to continue her catering business. Since then, Gauthier opened her first restaurant on the east side of Tucson, Chef Chic at 1104 S Wilmot Road.

In addition to opening her restaurant in 2019, she also became the first female chef to win the Tucson’s Iron Chef title.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, she said things were challenging but the restaurant was able to adapt and is now thriving.

As a thank you to the community and their supporters, Gauthier is hosting an event to showcase Chef Chic’s top dishes, including other dishes like tomato and bacon jam, jalepeño mousse, and the jiffy burger with peanut butter, bacon, and cheddar cheese.

“On September 19th we are holding a kind of parking lot, barbecue party, a celebration for the 20th anniversary. We will have cornhole, face painting, burgers, hot dogs and some other foods. And we team up with Monkey Bar at the end of our mall for drinks in a designated area. So you can buy drinks and just have a fun day in business for 20 years just celebrating the fact that we’re here and doing it great. “

The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1104 S. Wilmot Road.
