Tucson Local Media announced today that the newspaper group has been acquired by the Times Media Group of Phoenix. Conditions were not disclosed.

Tucson Local Media, owned by 13th Street Communications, will continue to publish its six Pima County newspapers: Inside Tucson Business, Explorer, Marana News, Foothills News, Desert Times, and Tucson Weekly.

Times Media Group President and Editor Steve Strickbine said he was excited about the opportunity to enter the Tucson market and “continue to deliver community news.”

Strickbine first got into the newspaper business when he founded the Scottsdale Times in 1998 and expanded his business to include more than a dozen weeklies in the Phoenix and Southern California markets.

Strickbine said he hadn’t foreseen any big changes with the newspapers.

“I would like to see the newspapers continue to do what they do, and do it well,” said Strickbine. “I am very excited about the future and the future of us together. I think we are definitely stronger together. “

The Times Media Group will take ownership on April 30th.
