Two people died in an accident on Friday night in Midtown Tucson, police said.
At around 11:30 a.m., officials responded to a fatal accident on East 29th Street and South Columbus Boulevard that involved a 2006 Toyota Tundra pickup and a 2016 Chrysler 300, Tucson police said in a press release on Sunday .
The passenger of the Toyota – Deandra Danielle Cadena, 29 – and the driver of the Chrysler – Yvonne Marie Leon, 40 – were pronounced dead at the scene, the police said. The Toyota driver was transported to Banner University Medical Center with minor injuries.
Police said the Toyota driver was traveling west on 29th Street and was unable to stop at a red light on Columbus Blvd. The Toyota collided with Leon’s car, which was on Columbus Blvd. was traveling south, the police said.
A DUI officer reported to the hospital and found that the Toyota driver was unaffected during the accident but had some alcohol in his system, police said. The police are investigating and no charges or subpoenas have been issued, police said.
