The University of Arizona hosts personal graduation ceremonies May 11-18, depending on the college, and while these are much smaller affairs than some alumni would like, many out of town people will come to celebrate.

And what could be nicer, graduates, to make memories of this special day than sharing with family and friends the Tucson that you came to know and love during your time here.

We contacted a few alumni about their post-ceremony plans and they came up with some pretty cool ideas, from taking a deep dive into the restaurants, shops, and bars of North Fourth Avenue to exploring one of Tucson’s most fascinating museums, the Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures.

Take the tram and go to the end of the line for the Mercado District where you will find all kinds of shops and restaurants that scream “Tucson only”.

Visit beginment.arizona.edu/ceremonies to find out when your graduate is marching. As for the after party, check out these ideas.

Party zone on Main Gate Square

After the state scrapped most of the COVID-19 protocols, including capacity restrictions in bars and restaurants, Main Gate Square on East University Boulevard is rocking. The shops, restaurants, and bars are pretty much as usual, which means you can stop at popular hangouts like Gentle Ben’s Brewing Co., 865 E. University, known for its craft beers and inventive burgers like the jalapeño bacon -Burger on a toast, brioche buns and smoky pulled pork sandwiches as well as southwestern delicacies from nachos to quesadillas can meet the crowds.
