One person died Saturday afternoon after a collision with serious injuries near South Sixth Avenue, officials said.
Rafael Celaya, 70, died on the scene, police said.
Just before 3 p.m., officials arrived at the intersection of South Sixth Avenue and East Michigan Drive after reports of an accident, police said. The Tucson Fire Department was helping Celaya, who was driving a white 2005 Volvo S60.
According to interviews, Celaya was traveling west on Michigan Drive when he failed to stop for a stop sign on Sixth Avenue, police said. Celaya continued west on Sixth Avenue’s north lanes and was hit by a blue 2014 Ford F-150 pickup truck.
The driver of the Ford F-150 was not impaired at the time of the accident, the police said.
The investigation continues.
