Tucson Independent Venues announced the policy – which will go into effect September 20 – in mid-August and joined a national movement that venue operators hope can keep their doors open.
“We have been closed for 18 months. We can’t do that again, ”said Bonnie Schock, Executive Director of the Fox Tucson Theater. “And that’s the bottom line.”
Schock said some customers who bought event tickets before the policy was announced have reached out to the venue to request refunds, but the vast majority of people are silent, following the “it is what it is” situation .
“If the music industry is to survive, we have to do this,” she said, adding that over time, independent venue guidelines will become standard practice in all venues.
The Fox will put his mandates to the test when Chris Issak performs on September 25th. Tickets range from $ 42.50 to $ 97.50 through foxtucson.com.
