TUCSON (KVOA) – Another local community is picking up the broken pieces after they were reportedly hit by vandals.

According to Arizona MP Alma Hernandez, Chabad on River was the last synagogue to be destroyed.

Hernandez is a member of Congregation Chaverism, another local Jewish faith center that was also reportedly hit by vandals last month.

“Sad to wake up to the news that @Chabad on River has been vandalized. If it happens to one, it will happen to all of us. The amount of Jewish hatred isn’t shocking. The silence is,” wrote Hernandez on Twitter. “This is NOT my #Tucson, please keep the # AZ # Jewish community in your prayers.”

Tucson police say the incident was reported Monday morning, but it is unclear when it happened. Police believe it happened over the weekend as the last confirmed sighting of no vandalism on the door took place on Saturday.

There were no arrests at this point. In addition, according to the TPD, a suspect has to be identified in the case.

The Jewish Federation and the Jewish Community Foundation of Southern Arizona released a response regarding the vandalism.

“We call on our Tucson allies, neighbors and compatriots to stand by us in combating hideous intimidation, hatred and anti-Semitism,” said Graham Hoffman, president and chief executive officer of Security is a cornerstone of American democracy. Working with the community in southern Arizona to prevent and eradicate hate in all of its forms will continue to be a priority for the Federation and the Foundation and all of our partners. ”

The incident also sparked a response from Governor Doug Ducey.

“This is terrible. Anti-Semitism has NO place in Arizona and this behavior cannot be tolerated,” said the governor in a Twitter post. “We are making sure the authorities are aware of this hateful act. Those responsible must be held accountable. Arizona stands with those of the Jewish faith.”
