Hundreds without power after Monsoon storm slams northern Tucson

TUCSON (KVOA) – Hundreds of people are without power after severe storms hit the north side on Friday afternoon.

Nearly 6,000 of its customers are experiencing a power outage between River and Grant Roads, according to Tucson Electric Power.

The first blackout, affecting the area between River and Prince Road and Stone Rod and Mountain Avenues, was first reported at 3:23 p.m. Officials say 1,802 people have been without power as a result of the blackout.

The power supply for those affected by this outage is expected to be restored by 5:23 p.m.

The second outage, which began at 3:28 p.m., occurred in the quadrant between Grant and Roger Road and Oracle Road and Park Avenue.

According to TEP, 3,558 customers are affected by this outage. There is currently no estimated time of restoration.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning in Pima County until 7:30 p.m.

Local residents are advised not to travel at this time unless they are affected by flooding or an evacuation order.

Two severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for Cochise and Pima counties by 4:15 p.m., according to Tucson News 4 meteorologist Daniel McFarland

He said that in Marana, Tucson, Oro Valley, Tucson Estates, and east of Tombstone, wind ghosts can be seen at speeds of 60 miles per hour.

For the counties of Cochise and Pima, 2 new SEVERE thunderstorm warnings were issued by 4:15 p.m.
