TUCSON (KVOA) – Tucson FC will fundraise every home game for the remainder of the 2021 season, starting this season when the club takes on USL League One opponents North Texas SC (7pm, this Saturday at North Stadium) receives.

Participants can bring new and carefully worn equipment and sportswear to the collection bins, which will be distributed to children in need.

In addition, Tucson FC will host a game Tuesday at the Kino Sports Complex where football teams, including Airmen from Davis Monthan Air Force Base, battle members of the Tucson Police Department.

If you want to support the nation’s first responders and protectors, fans are allowed in the stands, and best of all. Admission is free.

The first Hero Cup presented by Rescue Me Wellness will take place on Tuesday 17th August.

“We felt obliged to bring these two very important institutions together through the beautiful game,” said Amanda Power, president of Tucson FC. “We want to make it clear to young girls and boys that the love of games never ends for men of all ages, backgrounds and careers.”

Davis Monthan United has an Adult Metro League team that plays competitively all year round, and TPD has dozens of passionate soccer fans who play for fun and still serve in the troop.

“It’s great to see the community support from Tucson FC,” said Lt Col Erik Baker, DM United coach. “Our players are excited to go out on the pitch and show what they can do”

Tucson Police Officer Roman Acosta has long valued the power of football to unite the community. Before joining the police force, Acosta played for Tucson FC in the club’s first season in 2011. He has also coached Tucson FC’s youth football program. Acosta spent six years as a patrol officer in southern Tucson and now works in the TPD Recruitment and Information Office.

“Soccer was my first love. From playing to coaching, I was very fortunate to be part of our Tucson soccer community,” said Acosta. “The Hero Cup is just another example of what makes this community great and I’m really excited to be a part of it!”
