One person was killed in a rush hour wreck on Interstate 10 near the Grant Road exit on Monday morning, officials said.
The soldiers were called to depart west at around 8 a.m., and traffic in the area was still moving slowly hours after the crash.
Three vehicles were involved in the fatal accident, and DPS officials confirmed that a male driver of one of the vehicles was arrested in connection with the accident. The officials could not rule out an impairment as the cause of the wreck.
It was not known whether other people were injured in the crash.
There was no estimate of when all lanes would likely be reopened, said the DPS.
