“I always loved singing as a kid, but I was super shy about it,” says the 24-year-old, who was born in Tucson and grew up in Phoenix. “I would do it alone if I thought nobody was listening.”

In this way she recorded her debut album “Antares”, which she released on December 1st. The 10 tracks are singer-songwriter style, with different tempos and moods accentuated by the imperfections of the recording. Tanner, who admits she had no clue about recordings at the time, bought a cheap microphone and recorded the album on her computer.

She uploaded it to Spotify and thought “my fans will find me”.

“And they haven’t,” she said with a laugh.

Fast forward to 2021: Tanner, who works as a project engineer for a construction company in Tucson, has upgraded her microphone and bought the “Big Boy” recording software to make her second album. She also focused more on the story she wanted to tell with “Adromeda”.

“I’m proud of the way a narrative turned out to be. The first (album) was, ‘Oh, I bet I can write 10 songs and choose (multiple) chord changes,’ ”she explained. “This album is a break-up album, which is a super cliché, I know, but that’s music I think.”

Little did she know when she started writing the album earlier this year that it would be a breakup album.
