Memorial services will be held on Monday morning for a paramedic who died after a shooting in Tucson last month, according to American Medical Response, a medical transportation service.
On August 9th at 10:20 am there will be a memorial procession and a funeral service for Jacob Didinger in the Oro Valley. The services will also be broadcast live on the AMR Southern Arizona Facebook page that day.
The procession begins at the Adair Funeral Home near Northern Avenue and Magee Road and goes to Casas Church near La Cañada and Naranja Drives in the Oro Valley. The funeral services are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. The public is invited, according to the AMR.
EMT was one of five people shot by a shooter
Dindinger, 20, was one of five people shot dead by a gunman on July 18 in a chaotic shootout near 36th Street and Kino Parkway in Tucson. Other victims of the shooting included a firefighter, two citizens and Didinger’s colleague Cassandra Moreno.
Dindinger and Moreno were responding to a medical emergency near the Quincie Douglas Center in Silverlake Park when they were attacked by the gunman, whom police identified as 35-year-old Leslie Scarlett. Nearby, a fire department and two citizens were trying to put out a house fire when Scarlett shot them.
One of the citizens, Cory Saunders, died on the scene after being shot in the head. Didinger was also shot in the head and succumbed to his injuries just under two weeks later on July 29th.
The body of an unknown woman was found in the rubble of the house fire, although it was not known exactly how she died.
“Jake is the kindest soul you will ever know”
On July 31, following the announcement of his death, Governor Doug Ducey ordered the flags to be lowered to half baton in honor of Dindinger.
“Jacob Didinger was a brave, selfless member of our community whose life was taken far too soon,” Ducey said in a statement.
Didinger had only worked for AMR for four months prior to the shooting, according to AMR’s announcement through his memorial.
In a statement, Moreno thanked the community for their support in their recovery and the immediate assistance that she and Didinger were offered after the shooting.
“My deepest condolences go to Jake’s family and everyone who has been affected by this tragedy,” said Moreno.
At a vigil for the victims and survivors of the shooting on July 22nd, Andy Didinger said of his nephew: “Jake is the kindest soul you will ever know. He’s the most beautiful person I’ve ever met. ”
Those sentiments were shared on a GoFundMe page for Dindinger’s family, which stated that Dindinger had “a pure heart and a smile that never goes unnoticed”. It added that he “treated everyone with respect and kindness, regardless of who they are or what their past entails”.
