The Tucson Police Department, in partnership with GAP Ministries, will be hosting two free toy giveaways for local children.
The events were named “Unplug & Play” because kids were connected to their computers year-round, and now it’s time to go “unplug and play,” according to a press release from GAP Ministries.
July 10 – The Midtown TPD sponsored event will be held in the parking lot at Hi Corbett Field, 700 S. Randolph Way, from 10am until the toys are gone.
July 17 – The Southside TPD sponsored event will be held in Geico Parking Lot, 3050 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Way, from 9:00 a.m. until the toys disappear.
Around 4,000 children will be given 12,000 toys between the two Unplug & Play events. An additional 3,000 toys will be distributed to other local organizations such as Homicide Survivors Inc. and Tu Nidito, as well as several churches, afternoon programs, refugee organizations and care facilities to distribute toys to the children they serve.
“We know kids have struggled harder than usual this year. We wanted to bring some joy into their lives this hot summer,” said Margo Susco, Tucson Police Department coordinator for community engagement.
