Arrest made after Tucson synagogue spray-painted with swastika, antisemitic slur

TUCSON (KVOA) – A man was arrested in connection with the recent act of anti-Semitic vandalism in Chabad on River.

At around 8:26 am on June 7th, Tucson police received a report of a swastika and anti-Semitic bow sprayed on a classroom door at the congregation at 3916 E. Fort Lowell Rd. near the Alvernon Way.

After Arizona MP Alma Hernandez spoke out against the vandalism on June 8, several community leaders including Governor Doug Ducey and Tucson Mayor Regina Romero expressed their support to the local synagogue and the Jewish community.

“Sad to wake up to the news that @Chabad on River has been vandalized. If it happens to one, it will happen to all of us. The amount of Jewish hatred isn’t shocking. The silence is,” wrote Hernandez on Twitter. “This is NOT my #Tucson, please keep the # AZ # Jewish community in your prayers.”

TPD initially reported that they believed the incident occurred sometime between June 5th and June 7th, as the last confirmed sighting with no vandalism on the door was on June 5th.

After further investigation, 30-year-old Nathan Beaver was identified as a suspect.

He was located and taken into custody in the area of ​​North First Avenue and Roger Road.

Beaver was sent to Pima County Jail for serious damage to property.

“I know that this incident deeply worries our entire community,” said Mayor Romero. “I appreciate the dedicated work of the officers and detectives in our police force to identify and arrest the suspect.”

Tucson saw another act of vandalism at a Jewish faith center when, on Jan.
