Beavers Fall to Wildcats in Tucson

TUCSON, Arizona. – The Oregon State volleyball team fell in three sets (22-25, 19-25, 20-25) against the Arizona Wildcats on Sunday afternoon at McKale Center. After losing, the Beavers drop to 2-10 overall and 0-2 in Pac-12, while Arizona improves to 10-3 overall and 2-0 in Pac-12.

Freshman Kateryna Tkachenko led both teams offensively with 15 kills, just two short of her career high of 17 earlier this season. This is the second game in a row and the fifth this season in which the Ukrainian-born from Lubny led the OSU offensively. Tkachenko also scored one block assist and two digs throughout the game. Junior Lindsey Schell and Senior Maddie Goings followed with six kills each. Schell recorded three blocks and two excavations, while Goings had one block and three excavations.

Other key contributors to the Beavers included freshman Ryan White, who made a career high of 15 digs to lead the Beavers. Izzi Szulczewski recorded her sixth double-double of the 2021 season with 27 assists and 10 digs against the Wildcats. Szulczewski was also the only beaver to record a solo block that ended with two to reach her career high point for a single match.

Arizona ended up with two players with double digit kills, Jaelyn Hodge (13) and Sofia Moldonado Diaz (11). As a team, the Wildcats reached .221 and ended with 49 excavations.

Game notes

• Eight different beavers recorded at least one excavation in the three sets.
• Ellier Turner and DiLara Unal both recorded service aces for the Beavers.
• Szulczewski has six doubles this season and 16 in her career after 27 assists and 10 dig performance.
• Oregon State finished with seven total blocks, led by Schell and Szulczewski, who each finished with three.

Oregon State will be back in service on the Pac-12 networks in Utah # 15 this coming Friday, October 1st at 6:00 p.m. The weekend action continues when the Beavers travel to Colorado # 24 for an 11am matchup on Sunday, October 3rd.
