TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) – An SUV driver who crashed into an apartment building on the South Side faces multiple charges.
At around 3:40 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, a deputy from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department attempted to stop a Buick SUV on Bilby Road near the Camino De La Tierra on the south side of Tucson for a traffic violation.
The vehicle was reportedly not stopping and the deputy was not tracking it due to department policy.
The SUV then headed east on Bilby Road at high speed and passed the stop sign on Cardinal Avenue. He then left the lane and, after passing a chain link fence, collided with an apartment building on the 2800 block on West Bilby Road.
One resident was at home at the time of the incident, but neither the resident nor the driver were injured.
The SUV driver, 37-year-old Nicholas Allen Newell, was arrested and detained in Pima County Prison for illegally escaping from law enforcement, criminal damage, exposure and drinking.
